What is the Elderly Day’s International Day of Older Persons?
The International Day of Older Persons is every October 1 designated by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly to celebrate older persons in the human population.
It was passed in resolution 45/106 at the 1991 UN General Assembly.
This resolution is sequel to initiatives such as the Vienna International Plan of Action on Ageing adopted by the 1982 World Assembly on Ageing that was later endorsed same year by the UN, “to respond to the opportunities and challenges of population ageing in the 21st century and to promote the development of a society for all ages.”
