What is Ganoderma?
Ganoderma is a mushroom(all mushrooms are fungi). It belongs to the polypore fungi in the family Ganodermataceae and Genus Ganoderma which includes about 80 species, many from tropical regions. Ganoderma can be differentiated from other polypore fungi because of their double-walled basidiospore. They are also called shelf mushrooms or bracket fungi and used interchangeably as Lingzhi, also known as reishi, the ancient “mushroom of immortality”, paramount for over 2,000 years.
Which Ganoderma Specie Is Lingzhi?
Uncertainty exists about which specific specie of Ganoderma species was most widely utilized as Lingzhi mushroom in ancient times, but it is settled fact that this “mushroom of immortality” are likely a few different common species of Ganoderma and used interchangeably.
The name lingzhi, in Chinese, represents spiritual potency and essence of immortality. They refer to it as the “herb of spiritual potency,” symbolic for success, well-being, divine power, and longevity.
